More Good News For Oshawa

Oshawa hits another building record

Oshawa This Week

OSHAWA — Oshawa officials are thrilled the city continues to hit building records this summer.

July’s $115.2 million in construction value was the highest July on record for total construction value, breaking a record set in 2003. The biggest portion of that was residential construction which totalled $96.6 million from 367 new residential units. That included 264 apartments, 98 detached homes, 12 townhouses, two duplexes and three accessory apartments.

The city has set building records every month since March.

“The development frontier is now in the eastern end of the Greater Toronto Area and Oshawa is leading the construction boom,” said Mike Leonard, Oshawa’s chief building official. “The word is out. Oshawa is the place to live, work, learn and play.”

Oshawa has kept monthly building records since 1975, while yearly records date back to 1963. Visitwww.oshawa.ca/permits for more information on building permits.
