Only three Durham beaches safe for swimming

DURHAM — There are few options for anyone wanting to go brave the cool weather and go for a swim this weekend in the Durham Region.
Only three of 13 beaches have tested safe for swimming, according to the Region’s health department. The remaining 10 were deemed unsafe due to elevated bacteria levels.

Beaverton Beach North Brock

Bowmanville Beach West Clarington

Lakeview Beach West Oshawa

 

UNSAFE BEACHES ARE:

Bowmanville Beach East Clarington

Frenchman’s Bay East Pickering

Frenchman’s Bay West Pickering

Lakeview Beach East Oshawa

Pickering Beach Ajax

Beaverton Beach South Brock

Kinsmen Beach Scugog

Newcastle Beach Central Clarington

Thorah Centennial Park Brock

Whitby Beach Whitby

Testing isn’t being conducted at Elgin Pond in Uxbridge until road construction in the area is completed.     The health department notes people shouldn’t go swimming for at least 48 hours after a heavy rainfall as bacteria levels can increase because of run-off.
