DURHAM — There are few options for anyone wanting to go brave the cool weather and go for a swim this weekend in the Durham Region.
Only three of 13 beaches have tested safe for swimming, according to the Region’s health department. The remaining 10 were deemed unsafe due to elevated bacteria levels.
SAFE BEACHES ARE:
Beaverton Beach North Brock
Bowmanville Beach West Clarington
Lakeview Beach West Oshawa
UNSAFE BEACHES ARE:
Bowmanville Beach East Clarington
Frenchman’s Bay East Pickering
Frenchman’s Bay West Pickering
Lakeview Beach East Oshawa
Pickering Beach Ajax
Beaverton Beach South Brock
Kinsmen Beach Scugog
Newcastle Beach Central Clarington
Thorah Centennial Park Brock
Whitby Beach Whitby
Testing isn’t being conducted at Elgin Pond in Uxbridge until road construction in the area is completed. The health department notes people shouldn’t go swimming for at least 48 hours after a heavy rainfall as bacteria levels can increase because of run-off.
